About The Web Master

My educational background is in engineering, with a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Washington University in St. Louis Missouri. However, after working for a few years I realized my true passion is programming and website design. After taking several classes, I became a systems analyst and programmer and worked on large mainframe computers.

After taking early retirement I returned to school to learn how to program the world wide web and do website design I learned the new programming languages C++, Java, Java Script, HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, and data base design.

In 2010 I started a web design business, called “Lake Wylie Website Design” and started creating web sites using the above programming languages: i.e. Hand Coding web sites.

In 2019 I started creating web sites using the WordPress platform. This platform uses PHP, HTML, CSS, and MySQL as the underlying code structure to generate web code. My experience in using these languages gives me an advantage over most WordPress developers who don’t have this experience.

Once I started using WordPress, I realized how quickly I could create beautiful and functional websites. A website that took a month to complete now required a week with WordPress, wow! However, like all powerful tools, there is a learning curve to become knowledgeable in using the tool.

With WordPress you start with a “THEME”, however, there are thousands to pick from! You can spend days looking for a theme that works for your desired site. Some themes, come with “PLUGINS” and “Widgets”, tools that make a theme easy to turn into a functional website. Most themes don’t include all the plugins and widgets needed, you must search for the ones required. Like themes, there are thousands of plugins and widgets from which to select. This is a time-consuming effort to learn WordPress.

WordPress comes with a built in “Content Management System.” This alone is reason enough to insist that your website be built with WordPress. Once learned a non-programmer can make changes and add “Posts” to the completed site. This is particularly important if you want to start a blog! For this reason I include training on how to use WordPress’s Content Management System.

When considering purchasing a new website you must understand S.E.O., Responsive Websites, and CMS. I already discussed CMS, content management. S.E.O., search engine optimization, is understanding how Google and the other search engines find your website when someone is searching for information. I know how to create a website that is found by Google, Bing, and Yahoo.

Responsive Websites are websites that recognize what devise, desk top computer, tablet, or cell phone is viewing the website. My website include this feature.

In 2019 I changed my company’s name to South Park Web Design.
